For many neurodivergent young adults, the transition from education to employment can be a challenging journey. While they possess unique strengths, abilities, and potential, barriers such as limited access to structured training, workplace exposure, and financial constraints often stand in the way of meaningful employment.
At Hong Leong Foundation (HLF), we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.
As part of our commitment to building a more inclusive society, HLF partners with EmployAble, a Malaysian social enterprise dedicated to empowering individuals with learning and intellectual disabilities through employability training, job coaching, and pathways to meaningful employment.
Over the past two years, HLF has supported seven underprivileged neurodivergent scholars through EmployAble’s Employment Readiness Programme, helping to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity. The programme equips scholars with practical workplace skills and confidence through training in:
● Workplace communication and social skills
● Professional conduct and task execution
● Real-world job simulations
● Confidence-building and self-advocacy
But the journey doesn’t end there.
Upon completion of the programme, scholars continue to receive personalised support through job matching, workplace transition guidance, job coaching, and ongoing monitoring to help them successfully enter and sustain employment.
This holistic approach not only prepares participants for work but also empowers them to become more independent, confident, and resilient individuals.
At the same time, EmployAble works closely with employers to encourage more inclusive hiring practices and create workplaces where neurodivergent individuals can contribute and flourish.
The support goes beyond the classroom. Upon completing the programme, scholars continue to receive job matching support, job coaching, workplace transition guidance, and ongoing monitoring to help them sustain employment.
Through this partnership, HLF is not just supporting training, but helping to create pathways towards dignity, independence, and long-term opportunity for neurodivergent youth.
