Over 2,300 young Malaysians applied for the Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholarship this year, a testament to the strong aspirations of today’s youth. From this highly competitive pool, only 120 candidates were shortlisted for interviews, and just 49 outstanding students earned their place as the 2025 Merit Scholars. More than recipients of financial aid, they are a diverse group who embody academic excellence, leadership potential, resilience, and the determination to overcome financial struggles and personal hardships.

This year’s cohort also reflects the Foundation’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, bringing together scholars from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences, united in a shared journey of growth and learning.

To mark the beginning of their scholarship experience, the group gathered from 5 to 9 September 2025 at Thistle Port Dickson Resort for the annual Enrichment Camp. Over the course of five days, scholars were immersed in a thoughtfully designed programme that combined leadership activities, interactive workshops, and team challenges. These experiences encouraged them to think critically, work collaboratively, and step outside their comfort zones.

Each day concluded with reflection sessions, offering a space for scholars to process their learnings and strengthen bonds with one another. By the end of the camp, they not only developed valuable skills but also forged meaningful friendships and a deeper sense of belonging to the Hong Leong Foundation community.

The Enrichment Camp marked an inspiring start to their scholarship journey, equipping them with the confidence, resilience, and shared purpose to grow as future leaders and changemakers.
