Hong Leong Foundation scholars undergo a transformative leadership development journey designed to build not only academic excellence but also the confidence, resilience, and employability skills needed for their future careers. Their enrichment pathway upon onboarding as a HLF scholar includes a 5-day Enrichment Camp, an 8-month Social Action Project (SAP), and a 6-month structured Mentorship Programme with mentors from Hong Leong Group.
Since adopting this holistic leadership development approach two years ago, our scholars have delivered outstanding Social Action Projects. These young changemakers put their learning into practice by leading initiatives that foster collaboration, strengthen project management capabilities, and build self-confidenceโall while creating meaningful impact within the community. This holistic approach prepares them to enter the workforce as well-rounded, purpose-driven young leaders.
Key Projects Led by Our Scholars
๐ธ My Will Plan โ Empowering Seniors
My Will Plan was an awareness workshop held on 11 May 2025 in Kajang, empowering 20 senior citizens in Kampung Baru Sungai Chua with essential knowledge on will-writing, financial planning, and scam prevention. Conducted in collaboration with the MP for Kajang, the Village Leader, EPF, and My SmartWills, the session guided participants on the legal and financial importance of having a will and practical ways to protect themselves from scams.
This initiative not only fostered financial literacy, independence, and peace of mind among seniors but also demonstrated the scholarsโ commitment to creating meaningful, practical community impact, encouraging participants to take control of their future.
๐ธ Miles of Hope Charity Run โ Running for Smiles Cleft Lip Awareness
The Charity Run, held on 21 June at Taman Titiwangsa, aimed to raise awareness about cleft lip and the challenges faced by affected children. This 5km community event brought together over 200 participants in support of children born with cleft lip and palate.
In collaboration with CLAPAM (Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia), the run successfully raised RM5,000, funding a life-changing surgery for one child. Beyond fundraising, the event also featured a talk by medical experts, highlighting the importance of early intervention and emotional support for affected families. This initiative not only promoted health, empathy, and community spirit but also showcased how youth-led action can drive tangible, lasting impact, turning every step into a stride toward hope and healing.
๐ธ Whispers of Protection โ Child Safety & Boundaries
HLF organised an interactive awareness session on sexual harassment on 21 June at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, engaging 30 children from three orphanages in the Klang Valley. The session aimed to equip participants with an understanding of consent, personal boundaries, and self-protection.
In collaboration with the Womenโs Aid Organisation (WAO), the programme used interactive talks, role-plays, and discussions to build childrenโs confidence, awareness, and assertiveness in recognising and responding to inappropriate behaviour.
By addressing this sensitive yet vital issue, the initiative fostered respect, empowerment, and safety, reinforcing the message that every voice deserves to be heard and protected.
