From Passion to Progress: UMAMI 2025 Empowers Foodpreneurs in Miri

As part of Hong Leong Foundation’s commitment to nurturing inclusive and sustainable communities, the Foundation proudly supports Program UMAMI (Usahawan Makanan Miri), a flagship partnership with SAGO Group that empowers aspiring food entrepreneurs from underserved communities with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to build sustainable food businesses in Sarawak. The programme reflects the Foundation’s focus on creating long-term community impact through skills development and entrepreneurship.

UMAMI 2025 Phase 2 has successfully concluded in Miri, marking the graduation of 10 dedicated foodpreneurs after 10 weeks of intensive training. Through more than 30 sessions covering business acumen and food innovation, participants demonstrated strong commitment, resilience, and creativity.

At the closing event, graduates showcased dishes developed through the programme’s kitchen innovation labs, an inspiring reflection of their hard work and progress. The event also marked the soft launch of Community-Powered Catering for Miri, an initiative that connects incubatees to real catering opportunities while promoting local flavours and improving livelihoods.

We are proud to congratulate the UMAMI 2025 graduates and partners on this meaningful achievement. Their hard work and commitment have contributed to the success of the programme and its positive impact on the community.
