The Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholarship 2026 cohort marks the beginning of their scholarship journey with Hong Leong Foundation Executive Director, Ms Quek Sue Yian (centre), following the successful completion of the HLF Merit Scholarship Enrichment Camp at Thistle Port Dickson Resort.
The Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholarship continues to attract Malaysia’s most promising young talents, with more than 2,200 applications received between 1 April and 31 May 2026. The overwhelming response reflects the aspirations of Malaysian youth to pursue higher education and unlock opportunities for a brighter future.
Following a thorough selection process, 120 candidates were shortlisted for interviews, which were held at Jumpstart@65 with the support of volunteers from the Hong Leong Group, operating companies and industry partners. From this highly competitive pool, 46 outstanding students were selected as the Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholars 2026, including three Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to fostering diversity, accessibility and equal opportunities in education.
For the 2026 intake, the Foundation is expected to invest approximately RM2.3 million in scholarship funding, enabling these scholars to pursue Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree programmes at higher learning institutions across Malaysia. Beyond financial assistance, the scholarship aims to empower recipients with the skills, networks and experiences needed to thrive as future leaders and changemakers.
The newly selected scholars officially embarked on their scholarship journey at the Hong Leong Foundation Merit Scholarship Enrichment Camp, held from 4 to 8 September 2026 at Thistle Port Dickson Resort. As a compulsory component of the scholarship programme, the five-day residential camp provides an important foundation for scholars to connect with the values of the Hong Leong Group, build meaningful relationships, strengthen their leadership capabilities, and gain a deeper understanding of the Foundation’s purpose and values.
Throughout the camp, scholars participated in a series of engaging activities, including leadership workshops, team-building challenges, personal development sessions, and experiential learning exercises designed to strengthen resilience, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. The programme also provided opportunities for scholars from diverse backgrounds and experiences to learn from one another and forge lasting friendships.
The Enrichment Camp marked a meaningful beginning to the scholars’ higher education journey, equipping them with the confidence, purpose, and support network to excel academically and contribute positively to society. As they pursue their studies, the Foundation remains committed to nurturing their growth and empowering them to become responsible leaders who will make a lasting impact on Malaysia’s future.
Through ROAR Merit, Hong Leong Foundation remains committed to empowering deserving students to pursue their educational ambitions and realise their full potential. By supporting their academic journey and personal development, the Foundation seeks to nurture future leaders who will create positive and lasting impact in their communities and beyond.
